With the help of the ACT Government, Westpac is developing MyWay+, a new smart transportation system that will let citizens board and exit public transportation using a debit or credit card.
The ACT Government is developing MyWay+ to give citizens an easier way to pay for and commute on public transportation. People will be able to get information via the MyWay+ app to assist with their everyday commute, such as accessibility alternatives at bus stops or stations and real-time updates on bus and light rail operations.
Westpac will handle Visa and Mastercard debit and credit card transactions on public transportation as part of the project; these transactions are referred to as "Open Loop" transit transactions.
Nell Hutton, Chief Executive of Westpac's Institutional Bank, expressed her happiness to help the ACT Government in its efforts to provide a modern transportation system for the state's residents.
"With MyWay+, consumers won't have to purchase a travel card—instead they will have the freedom and convenience of paying for transportation with their phone, debit card, or credit card.
"Many Canberrans rely on public transportation for their daily needs, and we're happy to contribute to making the commuter experience better," the spokesperson said.
"This is a part of our ongoing commitment to provide customers with cutting-edge transactional and payment solutions and support for their end-to-end banking needs," Ms. Hutton stated.
