Revenir AI, a UK fintech firm, has created a white label app for banks that enables tourists to automatically use their phones to claim back VAT on purchases made overseas.
Every year, UK consumers throughout Europe fail to claim billions of pounds' worth of VAT and related taxes because the recovery process is usually cumbersome, opaque, and challenging to navigate.
Approximately 80% of VAT is not reclaimed by UK tourists who travel overseas, according to CFO Miles Covers. Many people are unaware that they may recover VAT on purchases made in Europe, and others choose not to bother because it is too much work.
In order to enable banks to automatically reimburse VAT to its retail customers via debit or credit cards within an average of 48 hours, the company has developed a white-label application. Whereas digital processes take weeks and require a lot of paperwork and copies of receipts, with commissions normally at least 35%, airport reclaims currently require hours of waiting in line and can cost between forty and seventy percent.
Revenir is growing the platform and adding additional locations in Europe and throughout the world after raising £2.5 million from investors.
