Former Union Square Advisors partner Andrew Atherton has joined Los Angeles-based investment bank Houlihan Lokey as a managing director in its fintech division.

According to the bank, Atherton's new role will include covering "multiple fintech sectors as well as fintech-adjacent enterprise software companies." He will be headquartered out of San Francisco.

The group offers fintech enterprises worldwide strategic consultancy services. With an emphasis on payments, real estate and mortgage technology, regtech, insurtech, data and analytics, asset management and wealth technology, payments, and capital markets, these services currently encompass M&A, growth strategy, valuation, and financial restructuring.

In 2023, the bank asserts that its M&A consulting services facilitated 89 global technology deals and 15 fintech mergers.

Atherton comes to the bank straight out of San Francisco's Union Square Advisors, an investment bank with a concentration on technology.

Before moving up to partner status and advising "on a broad range of M&A transactions, private capital financings, and strategic advisory assignments for clients across the fintech and enterprise application software sectors," he worked as managing director there for seven years.

Prior to this, he had positions in the special circumstances department at Goldman Sachs and the technology investment banking division at RBC Capital Markets.
