A former scientist at Amazon who worked on the Alexa platform has raised $6.5 million for a firm that aims to introduce fundamental AI to the world's investors.

The financing was led by Unusual Ventures, with participation from Clocktower Ventures and Fidelity International Strategic Ventures.

Theia Insights, a UK-based company, is building models based on sophisticated financial mathematics in order to "rebuild the infrastructural technologies that underpin the $100 trillion investment industry" through the use of AI, machine learning, LLMs, and natural language processing.

Three primary technologies are being developed by the company: portfolio analysis, thematic risk modeling, and dynamic industry classification.

Theia, the brainchild of Ye Tian, a former research scientist at Amazon Alexa with a background in NLP, has assembled a team of professionals from UC Berkeley, Morgan Stanley, Nasdaq, Meta, and the University of Cambridge's Computer Science Department.

According to Tian, "we live in a time of data overflow—from social media and news to financial filings and geopolitics. It's simple to get lost in the cacophony and frequently overpowering.

"However, making wise investment decisions requires clarity, and AI can play an unparalleled role in this regard by taking us from the valley to the summit, enabling us to select the paths we want to follow by observing where each path leads and how they connect."
