A majority share in Vectron Systems AG, purportedly one of Europe's biggest providers of point-of-sale (POS) systems for the hotel industry, has been bought by US-based payment processing company Shift4.
As a result of the transaction, Shift4 will have access to Vectron's vast European distribution network, which consists of 65,000 POS sites and 300 POS resellers. The deal's financial details are yet unknown.
The buyer claims that this network has a "minimum payment monetisation opportunity today of €25 billion in volume."
Furthermore, Shift4 announces that it plans to acquire “additional ownership of Vectron” via a public tender offer that is anticipated to be completed in the upcoming month.
Vectron will supply "valuable local expertise, infrastructure, and the distribution necessary to meet the demand," according to Shift4 CEO Jared Isaacman.
"With this acquisition, we can expand our distribution, create synergies, and monetize payments for a sizable install base—it's straight out of the Shift4 playbook."
Apart from the announcement of the agreement with Vectron, Shift4 has also declared the conclusion of its earlier disclosed acquisition of Revel Systems, a provider of point-of-sale software to restaurants and retailers throughout the United States.
Shift4, which has its headquarters in Pennsylvania, may be considering a sale based on rumors surrounding its recent acquisitions. Amadeus IT Group in Spain and financial behemoth Fiserv are showing interest in the possible sale, according to a March Reuters article.
