The world's largest insurance and reinsurance marketplace, Lloyd's, has announced that Sir Charles Roxburgh KCB will take over as its next chair.
Roxburgh is scheduled to start the position on May 1, 2025, although this appointment is contingent to clearance and permission from the Financial Conduct Authority and the Prudential Regulation Authority.
Bruce Carnegie-Brown, who has held the role for the last eight years, will be succeeded by him.
Lloyd's is an international marketplace that specializes in providing clients with reinsurance and insurance options worldwide.
It functions via a network that includes hundreds of brokers and more than 50 top insurance providers. Lloyd's, a renowned innovator and force, offers financial security to companies across all sectors, guaranteeing stability in an uncertain environment.
With decades of expertise in both the public and private sectors, Sir Charles is an invaluable addition to Lloyd's. He left his position as His Majesty's Treasury's Second Permanent Secretary, which he had from July 2016 to June 2022, lately. He had regular contact with Lloyd's and had strong links to the insurance sector while in this role.
He spent 26 years at McKinsey, where he held top positions in global strategy and financial services, before joining the Treasury as Director-General of Financial Services.
Throughout his career, Sir Charles had a strong relationship with Lloyd's, participating in important projects including the 1992 Lloyd's Taskforce and working with Sir David Rowland, the company's then-chair, on the 1993 Business Plan.
Lloyd's next phase of growth will be guided by his vast experience in both the public and private sectors, as well as his considerable leadership background.
In addition, in recognition of his contributions to government, Sir Charles was named a Knight Commander of the Order of the Bath (KCB) in 2022.
He is ideally suited to manage Lloyd's, which is renowned for playing a crucial role in the international insurance business, thanks to his extensive knowledge of financial markets and regulations.
Since taking over as Chairman of Lloyd's in 2017, Bruce Carnegie-Brown has voiced his satisfaction with the company's achievements, especially its enhancement of financial performance and modernization of the marketplace.
Serving as the market's chairman since 2017 and contributing to the advancement of several facets of Lloyd's development—chief among them being its financial performance—has been an enormous honor. Lloyd's has also made good strides in creating a more cutting-edge, inventive, sustainable, and inclusive business in that period. Lloyd's is a significant player in the global financial services industry. I am happy to welcome Sir Charles Roxburgh to the company. His vast experience and knowledge will help the market continue to grow and provide its distinctive value proposition to investors, customers, and market participants in the years to come.
Declaring, "Lloyd's plays a critical role at the heart of the global insurance industry and UK financial services," Sir Charles Roxburgh expressed his excitement for the new position. It has thrived and is in a solid competitive position with great financial security under Bruce's direction. Customers are receiving excellent protection from the market, and members and investors are reaping significant financial rewards. I'm honored and thrilled to have been chosen to be Lloyd's next chair. I'm excited to collaborate with the Council, John and the capable executive staff, as well as the larger Lloyd's market to help lead Lloyd's to even greater success down the road.
