Since 2017, Gopal has led ANSYS, Inc., a provider of engineering simulation solutions, as president and CEO. During his tenure, the business has grown both organically and through well chosen acquisitions, significantly increasing revenue. He became a director in 2011 and joined the company as president and chief operating officer in 2016.

Gopal formerly held positions as executive vice president at CA Technologies, senior vice president and general manager of Hewlett Packard Software, and operating partner for Silver Lake Partners. In addition, he founded ReefEdge Networks and held the positions of CEO and executive vice president at Symantec.
