A payment issue that has affected thousands of clients of Barclays, HSBC, Nationwide, and Virgin Money has resulted in some individuals not getting their salary.
Nationwide reports that a "third-party payments issues" has impacted the lenders on a day when many British people get their paychecks.
Pay UK has verified that a problem with the Faster Payments system is the cause of the problems: "Earlier today, a tiny percentage of Faster Payments were either not handled at all or were processed slowly.
Nationwide stated that it is "aware there is an issue meaning some customers’ salary or pension payments have been delayed today" in response to angry consumers on social media.
Throughout the morning, a few HSBC clients were unable to access their accounts via the mobile app or online.
"Our IT staff is putting a lot of effort on restoring these services to normal. It said on X that "You can still use SMS to authorize online card purchases."
One disgruntled customer said, "Would go to my high street bank but you closed that down and then closed the nearest one to that."
By lunchtime, the lenders were informing clients that their payments were being processed and should be finished by the end of the day, suggesting that the problem had been mostly rectified.
According to Pay UK: "Working with our infrastructure provider, this technical issue has been fixed."
