Commerzbank, a German bank, is extending its business lending offerings by introducing entirely digital credit cards to its clientele of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMBs).

The solution is anticipated to emerge in Q3 2024 and was created in partnership with B2B credit card fintech Pliant and neosfer, the bank's innovation section and early-stage investor.

With the introduction, Commerzbank says its company clients will be able to "manage their card portfolio themselves" and include the entirely digital solution "into their own billing processes." According to the bank, this will make it much simpler for businesses to provide new cards to their staff members.

Additionally, the solution will come with a number of card limitations, such as the ability to limit the use of the card to specific transactions and time periods.

Commerzbank states that it serves over 11 million individual and SMB clients in Germany in addition to about 25,500 corporate client groupings.

"We help our customers streamline their billing procedures and save money and effort with our new digital credit card solution," says Tobias Knoll, head of value stream accounts and payment methods for Commerzbank's private and small-business customer sector.

The bank's collaboration with American paytech company Global Payments was the latest indication of its support for small business payment initiatives.

Commerz Globalpay was founded by the partners in January with the goal of providing small companies in Germany with a range of "digital payment capabilities," such as card terminals, e-commerce software, and mobile-based payment acceptance.
