FinTech Australia is launching a new event to highlight fintech companies that are focused on sustainability. This event is being organized in partnership with BDO, StartUpBootcamp, and The Australian Trade and Investment Commission.
A panel discussion about fintech's role in addressing the challenge of climate change will be part of FinTech for Net Zero. Slyp, FootprintLab, Good for B, and Clima are among the impact fintechs that will make presentations at the event.
FinTech Australia and Clima will also collaborate to offset any emissions related to the event, which is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, March 12 at BDO's Sydney headquarters.
"Fintech has a fundamental role to plan in addressing climate change and other key environmental issues tied to it," said Rehan D'Almeida, general manager of FinTech Australia. Anything from lowering carbon emissions in the financial sector to assisting businesses in reporting their emissions to novel and intriguing funding sources for addressing climate-related problems. In order to achieve net zero, we must use every resource at our disposal. Fintech is a crucial component of the answer.
"This event is a part of our larger effort to increase the visibility and understanding of fintech companies in the sustainability and climate change space. It is a theme we will continue to promote through 2024 and builds on the introduction of our Positive Impact Finnie Award in 2023.
Future sustainability
"FinTech for NetZero is a testament to our commitment to sustainability and a call to action for all fintech stakeholders," stated Jude Blankfield, chief of staff and vice president of marketing at Slyp. Fintech is about creating a sustainable future, not just financial innovation.
Slyp is pleased to have been one of the select few fintech companies in Australia to obtain B-Corp certification, which represents a noteworthy turning point in our efforts to make a constructive influence. Our long-term goal to lessen the environmental effect of the 10.6 billion paper receipts that are in circulation in Australia each year has driven our mission to become the most trusted digital receipt and loyalty standard in the country.
"This purpose led to the introduction of FutureProof last year, an industry-driven effort that is a prime example of collaborative transformation at work, with the goal of improving the way Australians receive and handle receipts.”
FinTech for Net Zero opens concurrently with the 8th annual Finnie Awards, which will be hosted in June in Sydney this year. FinTech Australia, the advocacy group for fintech in Australia, is still accepting entries for the June event.
