Amidst the several accessories the manufacturer intends to offer with its upcoming R3 EVs and the next-generation R2 SUV, Rivian has a little cinematic surprise nestled inside its new "treehouse" rooftop tent.

At a customer event in Laguna Beach, California, Brian Gase, senior director of prototype and special projects at Rivian, told TechCrunch that the movie projector inside the rooftop tent—dubbed the "treehouse" by the company—is powered by the Rivian. The all-electric R2 SUV and the fast R3 and R3x hatchback cars were unveiled by Rivian founder and CEO RJ Scaringe a few hours prior to the customer event on Thursday night.

The white-labeled Yakima tent intended for Rivian's flagship R1T vehicle is not the same as the treehouse, as Rivian has dubbed it.

This unique treehouse product unfolds from its hardshell to reveal a spacious rooftop tent. According to Gase, the roll-down screen is situated next to a sizable window across from the aperture. He also mentioned that the projector can be powered by the car. The treehouse also has lighting and an internal fan.

According to Gase, the treehouse's design won't really change until it goes on sale. He stated that maintaining a high level of quality without going over budget is the main priority at the moment.

Referring to the R2, which is anticipated to start around $45,000, Gase stated, "It's about the cost because you can look at it and say 'that's awesome,' but then you're putting an expensive tent on a product that you're trying to get to an introductory level price."

The next generation of smaller, more affordable EVs from Rivian was unveiled on Thursday, along with a number of adventure-focused accessories, including a treehouse that can be transformed into a movie theater. Rivian intends to market a cargo box that can be used in conjunction with a new travel kitchen and mounts to a hitch on the rear of the automobile. A cooler, cooking set, and water tank are all part of the kitchen.

The all-electric R2, a five-seat midsized SUV with a range of over 300 miles and a starting price of $45,000, was unveiled by Rivian on Thursday. Unexpectedly, Scaringe also presented the smaller R3 and the sporty-looking R3x performance, a little EV that looks like a hatchback. The R3 vehicles' production schedule has not been disclosed by Rivian.

It is anticipated that the R2, which will now be produced in the business's facility in Normal, Illinois, will begin shipping in the first half of 2024. The business stated that by transferring R2 production from its proposed Georgia factory to its current Normal factory, it will save approximately $2.25 billion.
