Temenos (SIX: TEMN) has released the findings of a sustainability benchmark for its Microsoft Azure-powered cloud-native banking platform. The results show how well the platform can manage the erratic demands of digital transactions while also helping banks to achieve their sustainability objectives.

Using Temenos Retail Enterprise Services, the Microsoft benchmark simulated a client with 25 million customers, 38 million accounts, and the ability to handle 12 million loans in a single instance. This latest benchmark demonstrated the advancements in Temenos' leaner and more sustainable architecture, with up to 52 percent like-for-like efficiency improvement for the tested workloads compared to the previous release. Temenos had previously set a record highwater benchmark for the volume of transactions per second (TPS).

Temenos has lowered the carbon impact of its software by more than 50% when compared to a baseline from 2021 that was verified by GoCodeGreen. Enhancing performance through leaner architecture and more efficient code reduces the requirement for infrastructure, the amount of processing power required, and as a result, energy consumption and carbon emissions. For banks who choose to implement Temenos products on public cloud or as SaaS, this offers further environmental benefits in addition to Temenos' sustainable operations and the sustainability of hyperscaler partners like Microsoft. Temenos makes ongoing investments in its cloud-native platform to guarantee that it takes advantage of the most recent developments and inventions from hyperscalers.

More than half (51%) of poll participants agreed that banks will no longer own any data centers since they will have migrated to public cloud in the next five years, according to a recent Economist Impact research of 300 global banking executives.

Tony Coleman, Temenos' Chief Technology and Innovation Officer, said:

The unrivaled speed and effectiveness of Temenos' cloud-native platform in assisting banks with decarbonizing their operations and achieving sustainable business growth is demonstrated by the sustainability benchmark on Microsoft Azure. Temenos has put a lot of effort and money into research and development over the years to create a platform and solutions that are completely cloud-native and maximize the cloud's potential. Temenos is by far the most environmentally friendly method of doing core banking in the cloud because to its leaner and greener architecture."

Temenos' Chief Marketing and ESG Officer, Kalliopi Chioti, continued:

In addition to reaching environmental standards, banks are speeding up their cloud migration in order to comply with climate regulations. Temenos is dedicated to supporting our clients in meeting their own ESG goals. In particular, our cloud-native technology helps clients cut their carbon footprints dramatically. Additionally, we enable banks to monitor their direct and indirect cloud emissions from banking operations with our Carbon Emissions Calculator, a free tool integrated into Temenos SaaS. This helps them assess their progress toward sustainability targets and adhere to increasingly stringent climate rules.

Microsoft's Chief Executive Officer for EMEA Financial Services, Christian Sarafidis, stated:

We are overjoyed to see how our partnership with Temenos keeps raising the bar for cloud-based core banking. Microsoft and Temenos have a strategic partnership to address the banks' increasing need for cloud and SaaS banking services. By pooling our collective knowledge, we are spearheading the shift in the financial sector toward greater sustainability.
