Wells Fargo has moved existing CIO Tracaey Kerrins to lead a newly formed Generative AI unit and hired a new head of technology.
Bridget Engle, who was employed by the bank five years ago, replaced Kerrins as the nation's chief technology officer when she was hired from BNY.
Engle, a 30-year industry veteran, was BNY's SEVP and chief information officer from 2017 until the beginning of this year. She held a number of positions at Bank of America before joining BNY, including CIO of Global Banking and Markets and CIO of Consumer Banking.
In the reorganization, Kerrins will take over as head of consumer technology and head a new team called Generative AI, which will report to Engle and be in charge of promoting the technology's adoption throughout the bank.
"Bridget is a proven technology leader with deep experience leading large-scale technology transformations across multiple global financial institutions," says Charlie Scharf, CEO of Wells Fargo. Under Tracy's direction, we have come a long way, and Bridget's experience will be very helpful as we invest in, expand, and boost innovation throughout the whole organization in addition to modernizing our platforms."
Scharf comments, "Generative AI can help us transform our businesses, improve our customer and client experiences, and enhance the way we work," in reference to Kerrins' new position. Our newly formed Generative AI team will collaborate closely with each company, our data and technology platform management teams, and others to properly discover and realize the promise of Generative AI. We consider ourselves lucky to have someone in our organization with Tracy's experience, who is prepared to assume this new position and guide our team focused on consumer technology.
