Red Hat and Lloyds Banking Group are working together on a project to encourage the use of open source software among their technical teams.
To create and implement an open source strategy, Lloyds established the Open Source Programme Office (Opso). In addition to coordinating collaboration with other companies, the unit is in charge of developing governance and best practices and offering internal training and tooling.
The idea of InnerSource, a software development approach that integrates open source techniques with proprietary code, is something that The Opso is inclined towards. Retaining software for internal use, InnerSource can assist in fostering an open source culture within an enterprise.
In order to support Red Hat's InnerSource implementation, Lloyds is working with the latter to define a strategy that includes the proper resources—training, incentives, and tools—to integrate InnerSource culture with contemporary engineering techniques. In order to improve productivity and product quality, the two businesses are constructing InnerSource frameworks together to help standardize contributor roles and streamline procedures.
"Working with Red Hat will help us accelerate our adoption of InnerSource practices across the Group, so we can better deliver on our goals and objectives and deliver better products and services to our customers, more quickly," says Pooi Ling Cheong, lead of the Open Source Program Office at Lloyds Banking Group.
