The human risk management platform CybSafe performed a survey that illuminates the factors that parents consider most important when choosing banks for their kids.

The results show a significant preference for organizations that provide online safety education, with 56% of parents saying they would be more likely to choose a bank that offers instruction on remaining safe online. This information confirms a rising worry among parents about the education of their children in cybersecurity.

There is a major deficiency in cybersecurity education, according to study that examined parents' opinions of banks' contributions to children's online safety. Remarkably, eighty-two percent of parents feel that financial organizations should be the ones teaching kids about cyber hazards and how to reduce them. This indicates that improved cybersecurity protocols designed with kids in mind are desperately needed.

In addition, the research revealed a noteworthy pattern: just 27% of kids under the age of 18 had the same bank as their parents. GoHenry and other digital banking options seem to be changing parent choices, as indicated by the 50% of respondents who said their child(ren) do not have a bank account and the scant 19% who indicated they use the same financial institution.

When selecting a bank for their children, parents' selections are significantly influenced by the availability of online safety services. Even with online safety education, 23% of respondents preferred their own bank, but the majority (56%) said that more security features and resources would influence their provider of choice. This emphasizes how important internet safety is becoming to consumers when making decisions.

Still, questions remain about how adequate the policies put in place by children's banks are. A significant proportion of parents were doubtful or skeptical of financial institutions' abilities to safeguard children in the digital age, with less than half (48%) of parents believing that their child's bank was doing enough to assure online safety. Dr. Jason Nurse, CybSafe's Director of Science and Research, emphasized that banks must take a more proactive approach to encouraging youth internet safety.

"Our research reveals a clear demand for banks to play a more active role in promoting online safety for minors," said Dr. Jason Nurse.

"Banks can teach young customers how to identify and respond to suspicious emails, texts, and websites, empowering them to take control of their online safety from an early age," he said, "through nudges, engaging tools, and the ability to measure security behaviors."
