The open banking division of EML Payments Limited, Nuapay, is a competitor of GoCardless, the bank payment company. The acquisition is contingent upon regulatory approval.
GoCardless' indirect channel offering will be greatly expanded by the Nuapay purchase, solidifying its position as a major payment supplier to both current and potential client groups, such as Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) and Payment Service Providers (PSPs).
By integrating Nuapay's product into its bank payment gateway, GoCardless would expedite the introduction of additional disbursement features to its clientele. GoCardless may be able to take use of this to open up new use cases and vertical markets in industries including payroll, financial services, utilities, insurance, gaming, and gambling.
"Acquiring Nuapay will not only accelerate the execution of our product strategy, but will also enable us to meet the demand for more comprehensive payment solutions from Australian and international businesses," stated Luke Fossett, general manager of GoCardless ANZ.
"Our customers across a number of industries have been looking for a full-service bank payment provider that would assist businesses collect and pay out via direct debit and PayTo. The combination of both organizations will produce just that. We estimate that the payout and disbursements market in Australia is almost twice as large as the approximately 95 million direct debit payments that take place there each month. This represents a substantial opportunity for GoCardless.
Customers will be able to access these features through a single payment processor thanks to the acquisition. They'll also receive access to cutting-edge tools that will help them fight fraud and raise the success rates of payments, in addition to integrations with over 400 systems that they use to manage their business, including CRM, invoicing, and billing.
Changing the way the world is paid
A full-service provider with a "relentless" focus on bank payments will assist businesses and partners by facilitating payments and disbursements through open banking, real-time payments, and direct debit, in addition to offering improved features for enhancing payment success and lowering fraud.
"How the world pays and gets paid is changing, with account-to-account payments and open banking playing a central role in that shift," stated Brian Hanrahan, co-founder and CEO of Nuapay. Building on that common goal, this purchase will create a merged company with extensive knowledge of open banking, local and international payments, and the size to take advantage of these prospects for our partners and clients.
The declaration represents GoCardless' most recent achievement as it quickens its route to profitability. It has introduced GoCardless Embed, a white-label solution for PSPs to attract clients at scale, and has renewed and formed new alliances with companies like JustGiving, Xero, and Ecommpay in the past year.
