Coop to discontinue Finance+ project, citing “demand did not meet expectations”

Less than a year after its release, Coop, one of Switzerland's biggest retail and wholesale enterprises, has announced intentions to terminate its financial services app, Finance+.

Using Additiv's cloud-based API platform, the super-app was released in October 2023 and provides payment services, banking services facilitated by Hypothekarbank Lenzburg, and individual pension plans via alliances with Glarner Kantonalbank, Vanguard, OLZ, and Liberty Vorsorge.

But according to a brief statement, Coop has "decided not to continue operating the Finance+ project because demand did not meet expectations" after a "short pilot phase."

A Coop representative told FinTech Futures that the platform didn't live up to these expectations because of "various new offers from other providers [having] come onto the market and increased competition."

"Coop, one of the partners in Finance+, is going to pull out of this initiative. The firm statement goes on, "The precise date has not yet been established.

Until further notice, Coop guarantees that the Finance+ platform will remain fully operational. Additionally, "follow-on solutions for customers are being assessed," according to the Basel, Switzerland-based company.
