American Express Introduces "Plan It," Allowing Credit Cardholders to Make Payments Over Time

The international financial services provider and bank holding firm American Express has introduced "Plan It," a new BNPL-like product for the UK market that allows credit cardholders to pay off goods on their statement or a portion of their monthly bill, in installments.

With Plan It, cardholders with American Express credit cards can choose a transaction or a sum from their most recent statement to be placed into an installment plan for a period of three, six, or twelve months.

There won't be any interest applied to the debt in an installment plan; users will just be paid a predetermined monthly cost, which will be made clear when they set it up. While utilizing the promotion, cardholders will continue to accrue rewards for every purchase they make within their plan.

The American Express app or the cardholder's online account can be used to set up the installment plans. The installment plan is automatically deducted from the monthly "minimum due" payment after it is set up.

Vice President of American Express Ricky Bonham outlined how the new program would benefit cardholders in the UK, saying, "We know our cardmembers value flexibility, including in how they pay." Plan It allows our credit card holders to pay whenever it suits them, and they will still receive points on purchases ranging from a new vacuum cleaner to their next major vacation.

"We're excited to introduce an installment plan that offers transparent fees and no hidden charges as a business governed by the FCA."

Certain cardholders will not be able to use Plan It. If they have recently taken out a cash withdrawal using their American Express credit card, are enrolled in an American Express financial support program, do not have an eligible purchase or balance (minimum £100), or own a product that is not eligible for Plan It (AMEX Charge card), they may not be able to set up an installment plan.
