finance Week London, the flagship event showcasing innovation in the finance industry, is partnering with SafeSpace Plus as it gets ready for another year to make its participants' experience safer and more inclusive.
Through a code of conduct that applies to the entire conference, Fintech Week London intends to make participation comfortable for everyone by partnering with SafeSpace Plus. This code mandates that all participants, partners, and presenters make a conscientious effort to ensure the physical and psychological safety of every attendance, enabling each person to fully engage in an atmosphere that celebrates diversity.
SafeSpace Plus, created by The Inclusion Plus Institute, offers a thorough framework for creating simple, secure, and welcoming spaces. According to its explanation, organizations may establish a culture that values diversity, builds trust, and promotes psychological safety by utilizing its Code of Conduct incident reporting tools and participant assistance. This has been shown to improve engagement at events by as much as 76%.
For the fourth year in a row, Fintech Week London is returning to showcase and celebrate the creative fintech industry in the city, with its main conference taking place on Thursday, June 13.
Recent research from Esono via SafeSpace Plus indicates that over 40% of female keynote speakers at tech conferences had experiences with sexual harassment. The figure illustrates the disparities that still afflict the events sector and shows how important it is to concentrate on creating secure and welcoming spaces at events as time goes on, even though Fintech Week London has not encountered any of these reports at its past events.
The Code of Conduct is going to be mandatory for all guests of the Fintech Week London event. With a clear policy of consequences for violators, the event will use SafeSpace Plus's reporting mechanism, which allows attendees to formally and anonymously report these instances.
Supporting inclusion, equity, and diversity
Initiative creator Joanne Dewar said, "This partnership not only marks a significant step towards a more inclusive industry, but also underlines the critical role that diverse perspectives play in driving forward the financial technology sector." Project Nemo connects disability inclusion experts with fintech business decision-makers.
Diversity and inclusion encompass more than just talking about sexual orientation, gender, color, and some of the other more often publicized injustices. Through this collaboration, Fintech Week London is promoting an atmosphere in which all voices are respected and heard, particularly those of the "1 in 5" people in the UK who live with disabilities.
"We're not just reshaping the fintech community to be more inclusive; we're also making sure that our industry stays at the forefront of innovation and reroutes the path toward accessibility, diversity, and inclusion."
"We pride ourselves on curating the very best fintech content every year, provided and consumed by a diverse network of exhibitors, speakers, and attendees," said Raf De Kimpe, CEO of Fintech Week London, in further explaining the significance of the change.
"Fintech Week London simply could not deliver on the broader topics within our industry, which so many attendees come to the show to learn about, without these strong and innovative minds from a variety of backgrounds."
"We made sure we did our part both on and off stage. We have been vocal about the gender discrimination and wage gap that still exist in the finance profession. Through this collaboration, we are taking initiative to ensure that everyone feels secure and involved in addition to putting on a diverse event. Our goal is to set an example for future business events to follow.
