NatWest Enhances Chatbot with Generative AI Upgrade

With the help of generative AI, NatWest is raising Cora, its digital chatbot,'s IQ to respond to client inquiries in a more thoughtful and proactive manner.

Cora+, which was created in partnership with IBM, will be completely released after a 12-week trial period that addresses upgrades and lessons learned.

The more sophisticated chatbot will have access to a multitude of safe sources of information in one location, including details about the bank and its many goods and services.

Consumers will be able to ask questions and get more organic, human-style answers. They will also be given links to the material they have requested, which they can examine right away or save for later.

When a consumer enquired about a mortgage or other financing product in the past, Cora would send them to a generic page where they would have to do their own research and navigate through the available alternatives. Cora+ will now be able to deliver more precise and tailored answers by comprehending the context and subtleties of each question.

According to the bank, once Cora+ is completely implemented, the digital assistant will be able to predict the requirements of the user based on previous interactions and transaction history, saving the user from having to think of what to ask.

According to data from NatWest, the top five requests for Cora are: creating an ISA, getting a new card, changing addresses, canceling a transaction, and obtaining a statement.

"AI has been a key tool for NatWest since we introduced Cora in 2017, and nearly 11 million queries were answered last year alone to help customers manage their money," said David Lindberg, CEO of NatWest's retail banking division. We're going one step further today with the launch of Cora+, making history as one of the first banks to leverage generative AI in this manner to offer more individualized and timely service. Cora+ is more adept at anticipating customer requirements, offering advice, and giving more "human" answers to inquiries. Cora+ will revolutionize our clients' daily interactions with us for their banking requirements by utilizing generative AI.
