According to a Kaspersky research, phishing attempts related to cryptocurrencies experienced a high surge in 2023, while worldwide mobile banking trojan infections targeting Android users increased by a third.

Bian.h was the most common banking malware, responsible for 22% of all Android attacks. Geographically, the largest percentage of users reported experiencing banking trojans in Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, and Tajikistan, with Turkey leading the charge in mobile banking malware infections.

Attackers are changing their strategies to more aggressively target mobile devices as a result of the introduction of new and potent malware strains. This emphasizes how important it is for people and companies to stay vigilant, upgrade security protocols, and strengthen device security in line with this, according to Kaspersky security specialist Igor Golovin.

By comparison, in 2023 there was an 11% decrease in the number of individuals infected by financial PC malware, with over half of those afflicted being targeted by the Ramnit and Zbot families. Customers remained the main target, accounting for 61% of all attacks.

According to Kaspersky, it stopped around six million attempts to click on phishing URLs with cryptocurrency themes, a 16% rise from 2022. Fraudsters impersonated cryptocurrency exchanges and sold coins under the guise of well-known companies like Apple.

Financial phishing, which makes up 27% of all phishing assaults against corporate users and 31% against home users, is still a serious concern in general. Over 50% of phishing pages that target users of electronic payment systems are PayPal-related.
