The world's largest insurance and reinsurance marketplace, Lloyd's, has announced that it would build a new office in Miami on September 1, 2024.
By making this calculated step, the company hopes to fortify its position in the Latin American and Caribbean market and sustainably and profitably expand it throughout the Americas.
The significance and swift expansion of the Latin American and Caribbean area for Lloyd's is the driving force behind the decision to establish a new office. This area contributed $2.7 billion, or 4.6%, of Lloyd's gross written premium in 2023.
Renowned for its all-inclusive marketplace for insurance and reinsurance, Lloyd's provides a platform for risk management and underwriting proficiency.
With its worldwide activities, the organization offers a special platform for brokers, coverholders, and management agents to interact with various markets.
Lloyd's will be able to reallocate its resources to centrally serve brokers, coverholders, and managing agents throughout Spanish-speaking Latin America and the Caribbean thanks to the opening of its new Miami office. It will also function as an additional hub in the Americas to improve services throughout the continent.
By combining the new Miami office with the current locations in New York, Rio de Janeiro, and Toronto, this development brings Lloyd's operations in the Americas into alignment.
By increasing the assistance and knowledge provided to stakeholders and market players, this strategic alignment seeks to further the market's goals in the area.
Additionally, the Miami office will aid in the growth of the US market, especially in the excess and surplus lines (E&S) industry. Additionally, it will present chances to grow the Lloyd's Lab innovation hub, home to an InsurTech accelerator program that has won awards, and the Lloyd's Academy, a market-leading commercial education platform for risk professionals. The office will help international companies, captive syndicates, and draw in fresh funding.
"I'm incredibly excited about the opportunities that our new Miami hub will offer Lloyd's as we are able to work more closely with our market in Latin America and the Caribbean," said Dawn Miller, the recently appointed CEO of Lloyd's Americas and chief commercial officer. Additionally, we'll be able to service our clients in the Americas, which make up about two thirds of Lloyd's premium, by offering more comprehensive support across the country, especially in Florida and other Southeast states.
