Thunes, a worldwide cross-border payments firm, is pleased to announce that it has finalized an agreement to purchase Tilia LLC, an all-in-one payments platform, in order to accelerate its growth in the United States and its position in the rapidly growing online gaming sector.
Tilia provides payment solutions (acceptance and pay-outs) for virtual worlds, in-app purchases, online games, creator economies, and 48 U.S. states and territories.
Following the transaction's completion, which is contingent upon regulatory approvals, merchants throughout the United States, including those who are currently Tilia customers, will have access to Thunes' customized global network, which enables real-time payment and acceptance through four billion bank accounts, three billion digital wallets, and 550 Alternative Payment Methods (APMs). Thunes will be able to accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express, JCB, and UnionPay for its customers by utilizing Tilia's technology.
As part of the deal, Thunes and Linden Research, Inc. ("Linden Lab"), the company that currently owns the majority of Tilia, have reached an exclusive five-year agreement. After the deal closes, Thunes will use its global network to process payments and pay outs to Linden Lab, enabling players to send and receive money in real-time, more affordably, and transparently.
"The acquisition of Tilia demonstrates our ambition in the United States," says Floris de Kort, CEO of Thunes. With this investment, we will be able to take advantage of Tilia's capabilities to provide merchants direct options for money transfer into and out of the US. Additionally, Tilia's extensive knowledge of virtual worlds, online gaming, and token-based payments will tremendously speed up our entry into that fascinating and quickly expanding sector.
"Thunes is an exceptional company that directly connects nearly every payment method and market worldwide," says Linden Lab CEO Brad Oberwager. Customers of Linden Lab will have more payment options and real-time pay-outs into their preferred bank account or wallet thanks to the integration of Tilia and Thunes. For our customers and employees, things will continue as usual when we merge Tilia and Thunes.
After the deal concludes, Tilia will change its name to Thunes and stay headquartered in San Francisco, subject to regulatory approval.
