Though the current Google Pay app will still be the hub for all things payment in India, Google Wallet is making its way there.

Users will be able to access boarding passes, gift cards, public transportation tickets, event tickets, loyalty cards, and more through the Wallet app. More than 20 companies have signed on as launch partners, such as BMW, Dominos, and Air India.

For NFC and UPI payments, Indian users would still need to utilize the dedicated Google Pay app.

In contrast, in the majority of countries, Pay was superseded by Wallet in 2022. Although Google originally made both apps available in the US, Pay was discontinued earlier this year.

In order to expand the immensely successful UPI to additional nations, Google Pay has signed an agreement with the NPCI in India.
