Following the transfer from outgoing CEO Andreas Andreadas, Jean-Pierre Brulard, CEO of Temenos, opened the first day of the Temenos Community Forum (TCF) with an opening address.
Brulard began by outlining his experience in software before accepting his role at Temenos, saying, "I'm really thrilled to lead this new chapter."
Then, saying, "This world is becoming more volatile, more uncertain, more complex, more ambiguous," he listed some of the growing difficulties that financial service providers are seeing.
According to Brulard, the two key components of a thriving software sector are innovation and client centricity.
During my professional life, I have witnessed numerous excellent customer-centric businesses that failed to innovate and eventually went out of business or stagnated. I've seen some excellent inventors, but they didn't scale and lacked customer centricity.
He emphasized that while consumer needs are the main source of innovations, Temenos must be the first to foresee some of these significant ones.
"What you can expect from me and my executive team is to be always, always accountable to deliver on commitment," he said in closing.
The value of client trips
Chuck Kim, executive vice president and chief financial officer of Commerce Bank; Marlou Jenniskens, managing director of digital wealth products at ABN AMRO; and Vincent Chatard, chief operating officer of Mauritius Commercial Bank, joined Will Moroney, president of Temenos' worldwide customer centricity division, on stage.
Kim explained the reasoning behind Commerce Bank's decision to update its core systems, saying, "We recognized that our current core system was very rigid. That's when our journey began." Getting talent to work on it was difficult. It had been in operation for more than 30 years, and as our consumers' needs for digital experiences and a wider range of items increased, we were forced to move much more quickly than we could.
In response to a question on optionality, Jenniskens stated that renewal was an essential component of their clientele and product offerings. She went on to say that there is a new generation of customers with different viewpoints who are searching for more individualized alternatives, more digital journeys, and items that are easily accessible on their phones. This is due to the significant money transfer that is occurring between the baby boomer generation and their offspring.
"We discovered that we are on a significant digital transformation journey that is really needed for us," the speaker stated. We also can't accomplish everything at once.Temenos significantly assisted us in this area, thus I believe that optionality is crucial for us.
"There's more and more compliance around cyber information security, and having one platform allows you to continuously upgrade not only Temenos but all the bits and pieces which are below the database on your operating system," Chatard said in reference to the regulatory advantages of utilizing a single platform. Therefore, it's crucial that you avoid creating legacy systems and stay current with vulnerabilities and other issues.
Temenos's VP of product and COO, Prema Varadhan, took the podium to discuss the most recent product developments offered by the company.
After discussing Temenos Enterprise Service, generative AI, asset financing advancements, modifications to their digital wealth app, and software's ability to reduce carbon emissions, Varadhan was joined on stage by Spyros Loizou, group head of international IT at Eurobank (Cyprus).
In reference to their banking reform, Loizou stated that while the "why" of modernizing their system was clear, the "how" posed more challenging concerns. "To eliminate complexity of integration, we really wanted to focus on a partner that was going to give us scalability, flexibility, and a good product range," he stated.
"We are proud to say that we have completed a front to back, back to front transformation," Loizou continued. Thus, it is certain that we have the ideal environment for developing new innovations.
Next, QIK CEO Arturo Grullon joined Varadhan to talk about their choice between SaaS and on-premises or cloud computing.
Grullon stated that they required a solution that was scalable, dependable, and flexible, with a short time to market. "Where Temenos truly shone was in providing us with product innovation as well as the ability to scale the business with stability," he stated.
SaaS and AI-infused platforms
Varadhan started the conversation on Temenos's launching of their generative AI product, Responsible AI, when the company had a coffee break.
With reference to the present EU AI Act, Varadhan emphasized the significance of responsible AI, saying, "What it is doing is enforcing the safe, transparent, unbiased and environment friendly way of using AI."
"It's not possible for someone to look into it and think that this is what it thought and this is why it did this," the speaker continued, unless the model was described.
Tony Coleman, Temenos' chief technology and innovation officer, introduced Temenos Positions to the audience and covered the most recent advancements in the Temenos Banking Platform to wrap up the first half of the day.
Coleman reported enhanced engineering efficiencies, citing Project Rapid as one example that "can now produce a specific executable." This reduces the bulk of the application framework stack, resulting in lighter and quicker deployables.
Coleman emphasized that Temenos Positions is lightweight due to its externalization of data and that it can be used over current architecture.
