The Australian Commonwealth Bank and Amazon Web Services have joined together to establish an internal "AI Factory" with the goal of expediting the deployment of generative artificial intelligence.
Because the AI Factory has the processing capability to train and fine-tune large language models (LLMs) at faster rates, staff will be able to undertake safe testing and development of AI solutions.
The AI Factory will leverage AWS technologies for deep learning and high-performance computing applications, such as Amazon EC2 P5 Instances and Amazon SageMaker, a managed machine learning (ML) service.
Dr. Andrew McMullan, chief data and analytics officer of CommBank, states: "The AI Factory is set to accelerate the bank's development time for AI-powered initiatives by around four times compared to our current rate by leveraging AWS's cloud infrastructure and latest AI capabilities."
"It will enable our engineers and AI scientists to incorporate Gen AI and AI capabilities into their daily work, resulting in enhanced productivity and innovation. With the help of this additional computational power, CommBank is now able to provide more individualized experiences for each and every one of our clients, expedite delivery across all channels and operations, and encourage the responsible development of Gen AI throughout the whole bank.
The bank has been using artificial intelligence (AI) for a number of years to detect technology-facilitated misuse and to better safeguard consumers from fraud and scams.
It said in October that it was researching the use of generative AI to generate "synthetic customers" that might mimic human behavior in order to gauge how well-received new goods and services would be.
Additionally, it has started offering all staff members access to an AI microlearning course that covers subjects including responsible AI, deep learning, and generative AI.
Declare McMullen: "CommBank has made AI a strategic priority for a period of years. Recent developments in Gen AI promise to significantly improve customer experience and streamline essential banking operations. Since technology is developing swiftly, we must have the proper infrastructure in place to support our strategic objective of creating the bank of the future today for the benefit of our clients. The AI Factory will make sure we're ready to take full advantage of this new technology.
